چکیده

The use of optical flow fields in image sequence analysis allows to perform motion-based segmentation as well as 3-D reconstruction. Many techniques for optical flow estimation are based on some global or piecewise global smoothness assumption. Other techniques compute the flow field based only on local information. In this paper a local algorithm explicitly addressing the problem of evaluating a reliable optical flow field at motion boundaries is presented. Velocity vectors are computed as solutions of a multiwindow least squares problem; the field is then regularized by a vector median filter. The algorithm is non-iterative and non-parametric. Results on both synthetic and real-world sequences are shown; a performance comparison with two well known techniques demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithm in terms of noise rejection, motion boundary preservation and fastness.

Oceanographic images obtained from environmental satellites by a wide range of sensors allow characterizing natural phenomena through different physical measurements. For instance Sea Surface Temperature (SST) images, altimetry data and ocean color data can be used for characterizing currents and vortex structures in the ocean. The purpose of this thesis is to derive a relatively complete frame...

This thesis presents a successful novel approach to the challenging problem of model selection in motion estimation from sequences of images. The concept is based on the brightness change constraint which is discussed formally and concisely such that new light is cast on the properties of local parametric optical flow models. These models give rise to parameter estimation problems with highly c...

Refinement of Optical Flow Estimation and Detection of Motion Edges

In this paper a multi-scale method for the estimation of optical ow and a simple technique for the extraction of motion edges from an image sequence are presented. The proposed method is based on a differential neighborhood-sampling technique combined with a multi-scale approach and ow ltering techniques. The multi-scale approach is introduced to overcome the aliasing problem in the computation...

Determination of 137Ba Isotope Abundances in Water Samples by Inductively Coupled Plasma-optical Emission Spectrometry Combined with Least-squares Support Vector Machine Regression

A simple and rapid method for the determination of 137Ba isotope abundances in water samples by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) coupled with least-squares support vector machine regression (LS-SVM) is reported. By evaluation of emission lines of barium, it was found that the emission line at 493.408 nm provides the best results for the determination...

Maximum-likelihood optical flow estimation using differential constraints

Many optical flow estimation techniques are based on the differential optical flow equation. For these techniques, a locally constant flow model is typically used to allow the construction of an over-determined system of constraint equations. In this paper, the problem of solving the system of optical flow equations using a constraint total least squares (CTLS) approach is investigated. It is s...
